Forest Galleries

A study of light and contrast

I took the idea of contrast in light

and carried that through

material,

form,

and program

to generate an experience of

constant attraction to an opposing sense.

The two galleries, defined by their position relative to the sun, emphasize the morning and evening light.

The two structures physically embody contrast through their opposing forms, both within and between each other.

A variety of linear apertures

that transmit light into a dim, narrow space

manifests in a dramatic forest

of contrast and light.

The typical eye is attracted to visual contrast,

as it’s what creates distinction

between color and brightness,

making it easier to observe percieved light.
